Well,well it is a Mussels feast at our place.This batch of mussels was showered by my brother who visited Kerala for a family function.So on his way back to Mangalore he brought loads of mussels.Neeli means mussels.This batch of mussels were quite big ones,fresh and very tasty.Last time when my Papa had brought there was little sand particles since the size was small and it is said if the size is small the
babies mussels open their mouth and thus the sand, but this batch was superb flavored ones.So I can say we were lucky this time.I deep fried the mussels in a traditional Amchi way and enjoyed to the core.Amma too deep fried few mussels and as usual she prepared yummilicious Neeli hinga uda which will be featured next.Last time I prepared South Indian style deep fried Neeli since the size was small and it blended well.
Mussels or Neeli-25,large sized
Chilly powder-2-3 tsp approx
Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp
Besan or Bengal gram four-2 tbsp
Rice flour-3 tbsp
Mussels stock-3-4 tbsp for binding or water
Coconut oil-1/2 cup approx to deep fry
- Refer here on how to clean mussels.
- Marinate all the ingredients to the mussels using the stock except oil and keep it aside for an hour.
- Heat oil and deep fry the mussels until crisp and brown in colour.
- Serve hot.
